‘One Piece Plan’ encourages everyone to pick up litter from beaches and waterways.
You can join the movement to clean up our beautiful beaches, waterways, and parks without having to join a club or make a donation. All you have to do is pick up one piece of trash.
“If everybody I paddled out with did this, everybody who walked down the beach does this, it can make a tremendous cumulative impact,” said Tom Fucigna, known as Tom Fu to his Facebook followers. “That’s what it’s all about.”
Fucigna started the One Piece Plan about 10 years ago to encourage people to pick up at least one piece of trash whenever they’re by the water or spending time outside.
“Unfortunately, every place you go there’s something that needs you to pick it up. And in most cases, you just need to look,” Fucigna said.
The One Piece Plan Facebook page now has more than 4,000 likes. People post pictures showing what they’ve cleaned up from their local beaches or outdoor spaces and share them on the page.
“It really has blossomed,” Fucigna said. “There are over 4,000 people around the world who have already checked in saying, yeah, I do this too.”
“I pick up what I see when it’s floating in the water with my paddle,” said Nessa Brunton, an outdoor sports enthusiast and avid One Piecer.
